Blot is a site generator. Blot turns a folder into a website. The point of all this — the reason Blot exists — is so you can use your favorite tools to create whatever you publish. This is the source code for the hosted service:

The general architecture of Blot is:

The internet <> Reverse proxy (Openresty) <> Blot (express.js node application) <> Redis

Blog pages, on subdomains and custom domains, are served by the reverse proxy directly, with no CDN in front. The CDN (Bunny) serves only cdn.blot.im URLs: static assets, blog CSS and JS, and folder files and generated assets that blog links point there.

Self-hosting Blot is currently unsupported. Please don’t file issues or contact support about it. I hope to support this properly someday, but not yet.

To run Blot locally, you will need Node.js (the LTS release named by NODE_VERSION in config/versions.env), Docker, mkcert and dnsmasq. Then:

git clone https://github.com/blotcms/blot --depth 1 cd blot nvm install "$(sed -n 's/^NODE_VERSION=//p' config/versions.env)" nvm use "$(sed -n 's/^NODE_VERSION=//p' config/versions.env)" npm start

The nvm commands read the version from config/versions.env, which also holds every other version Blot is built with. If you use another Node version manager, select that Node.js version before running npm start.

The dashboard is https://local.blot and the example site is https://example.local.blot. For the full setup, see:
